House geckos aren’t considered pests, and there’s no chemical treatment involved in managing them — in fact, they’re often doing you a favour, since they feed on the very insects most people want gone. Most concerns are about droppings, occasional nighttime chirping, or simply the discomfort some people feel around them, not any real risk.

Since geckos follow their food, reducing the insect activity that draws them in is usually the most effective long-term approach, alongside sealing entry points around doors, windows and lighting fixtures. Repellent sprays are also commercially available, generally scent-based rather than chemical, though effectiveness varies and reapplication is often needed.
